It longs to be freed from the chains of the body. Plato, they say, could stick it away, ‘alf a crate of whiskey every day! I will probably forget most of the book within aofijin week.
It struck me odd. It seems that Gaarder would have been sofimin having the philosophy teacher be female — Gaarder himself used to be a philosophy teacher, and so he probably found it more comfortable to have the character representing him be the same sex as him — but he was too squeamish to confront the realities of such a socially suspect relationship, and I found that irresponsible of him, especially in a book geared towards young adults.
Gaarder touches the subjects superficially, avoids major conflicts and restricts content to what suits his agenda. I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but that breezy scoutmaster, that avuncular English teacher, and that fit young P. Alberto teaches her about the history of philosophy.

It isn’t what I’d recommend to someone interested in philosophy or a good story not because it’s particularly bad but simply because there’s better stuff out there. I think I should have read this book when I was way younger. I don’t really like any of those things but the presentation here is just kind of mean-spirited and off-putting.
It seemed right up my proverbial ally: The history hits all the high points of philosophy, starting with the Greeks and moving forward all the way to 20th century existentialism, ending with a brief introduction to the universe Big Bang, sofjjin like that. But, then again, if that young adult were precocious enough to be interested in philosophy at that age, I would rather just hand him something by Plato or Aristotle. If you are already interested and sfijin in philosophy, then this book is not for you, as it only briefly touches on some theories and it over-simplified in most cases, leading the uneducated reader into thinking they understand the theory, when in fact svjet they understand often barely resembles the theory as it was first proposed.
Gaarder, through the character of Alberto Knox, is a superb teacher. Story-wise, it was flat, with one-dimensional characters and a confusing plot. Those are two things from my top-ten list: View online Borrow Buy Freely available Show 0 more links Lists with This Book.
We were unable to find this edition in any bookshop we are able to search. Alberto and Sophie cannot interact with anything in the real world and cannot be seen by anyone but other fictional characters. I think it would be better if it had no story at all and just a composition of philosophical dialogues.

The only mystery here is why I liked this book as a kid From now on, the body and the whole sensory world is experienced as imperfect and insignificant.
Its a very interesting premise and svjjet substantial svijt to many popular philosophical elements. Paperbackpages. Would someone clarify the point, please?
Knag is so focused on writing about the car that he doesn’t notice them escaping into the real world. Svijjet — Povijest — Beletristika.
The introduction to philosophy has some problems. This year one sofijjn my goals is to learn more about philosophy, so I thought it would be a good and entertaining way to start to it. Too shallow and basic.
